Chinese Checkers (2 players) is the star-board race game: get all of your marbles into the corner directly opposite before your opponent does. Nothing is ever captured and nobody gets knocked out โ€” the whole game is about spotting long chains of hops across the middle of the board. This version is made for two people sharing one phone, tablet or computer. There's no account, no download and nothing to install; open the page, pass the device back and forth, and play. Red starts at the bottom point and moves first, Blue starts at the top. Choose 10 or 15 marbles per side and the app takes care of the rest: it checks every move, animates multi-hop chains and declares the winner.

How to play

  1. On the title screen pick Marbles per side โ€” 10 or 15 โ€” then tap Play together. The marble count is remembered on this device.
  2. The board is a wooden six-pointed star with 121 holes drawn as small dots. Red's marbles sit in the bottom point and Blue's in the top; the corner each side is heading for is lightly tinted in that side's colour, so you always know where you're going.
  3. Red moves first. Tap one of your marbles and a lime ring appears around it; tap an empty hole and the marble moves there. To pick a different marble, just tap that one instead.
  4. For a chain of hops you don't have to tap every landing spot. Tap the final destination and the app finds the route and bounces the marble along it hop by hop. If you'd rather stop partway, tap that intermediate hole instead.
  5. Tap somewhere you can't go and a red ring flashes with "Cannot move there โ€” only an adjacent hole or a hop landing". Tap an opponent's marble and you'll see "You can only move your own marbles".
  6. The player cards at the top show how many marbles each side has brought home โ€” 3/10, say โ€” and the card of whoever is to move glows with a lime border. The counter in the middle is the number of turns played so far.
  7. When one side fills the opposite corner, the result overlay appears with a trophy, a one-line reason ("Red filled the opposite corner") and today's series. Tap Play again to go straight into another game, or Share result to send the score line and a link to a friend.

Rules

Only two of the star's six points are used: Red's home is the bottom point, Blue's is the top, and each side's goal is the point straight across. One marble moves per turn, and there are exactly two kinds of move.

  • Step: move to an adjacent empty hole, in any of the six directions โ€” backwards is allowed.
  • Hop: jump over a marble that is directly next to yours and land in the empty hole immediately beyond it. You may hop over your own marbles or your opponent's.
  • Chains: after landing, if another hop is available you may keep going in the same turn, as many times as you like. You can't finish the chain back on the hole you started from.
  • A step and a hop can't be mixed in one turn. If you step, that's the whole turn.
  • Hopped-over marbles are not captured. They stay exactly where they were.
  • The last move is drawn as a dotted yellow path, with a ring on the hole it started from.
10 or 15With 10 marbles each side occupies the four rows of its point (1+2+3+4). With 15, the middle five holes of the fifth row are added. Fifteen makes for a more crowded board, longer hop chains and a longer game.
WinningYou win when every hole in the opposite point is occupied and at least one of the marbles there is yours.
Marbles left behindIf your opponent leaves a marble sitting in their home point, that hole counts as filled for you. This stops a player from parking a marble at home forever so that the other side can never finish.
UndoTakes back the previous move โ€” a whole hop chain at once โ€” with no limit on how many times.
ResignTap once and the button changes to "Really resign?"; tap again within 2.5 seconds and the side whose turn it is loses.
New gameAsks for confirmation if a game is in progress. "Series today" is the winโ€“loss tally for as long as this page stays open; refreshing the page resets it.

Tips for winning

  • Build a ladder early. Marbles spaced one hole apart in a line towards the centre let the marbles behind them hop the whole length in a single turn. Spending your first few moves laying that ladder beats sprinting one marble ahead.
  • Ride your opponent's ladder. Hops work over any marble, so a line your opponent has built through the middle is a free highway for you too. The same is true in reverse, so notice when your own chain is handing them a ride.
  • Don't strand the back marble. A single marble left in the corner has to walk out one step at a time once the ladders are gone, and that can cost ten turns. Send the rearmost marbles up while the bridge is still standing.
  • Steps are expensive. A single step gives up the chance to hop that turn. Use one only to set up a hop for the next turn.
  • Fill the far end first. Marbles that arrive first should go all the way into the tip of the point, so later arrivals can hop over them into the remaining holes. Blocking the entrance with your own marbles slows you down.
  • Read the yellow path. The dotted line shows exactly where your opponent's last marble travelled โ€” often the same route is open for you right now.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make a multi-hop move?

Tap your marble, then tap the hole where you want to end up. The app works out the hop route and plays it as a bouncing animation. If you want to stop earlier, tap that intermediate hole instead. A hop chain can't be combined with a step, and it can't end on the hole it started from.

Can I hop over my opponent's marbles? Are they captured?

Yes, you can hop over any marble, yours or theirs, as long as the hole beyond it is empty. Nothing is ever captured โ€” the marble you jumped stays where it is, and the number of marbles on the board never changes.

What if my opponent leaves a marble at home?

That hole counts as filled for you. You win as soon as every hole in the opposite point is occupied and at least one of them holds your marble. It's a common house rule that prevents one player from blocking the other's goal indefinitely.

Can three or six people play?

Not in this app โ€” it's strictly two players, Red against Blue on opposite points of the star.

What's the difference between 10 and 15 marbles?

Ten is the four-row corner and plays quickly; fifteen adds five holes from the fifth row, which crowds the board and produces longer, more spectacular chains. Start with 10 if you're new, move up to 15 once you're comfortable.

Is there an online mode or a computer opponent?

No. It's built for two people on the same device, taking turns โ€” which is why there's no sign-up and nothing to install.
