Read the numbers, dodge the mines, open everything else. Classic minesweeper right in your browser โ the first click is always safe, and there's one daily board the whole world races on.
Getting started
- On the title screen choose a level โ Easy 9ร9, Medium 16ร16 or Expert 16ร30 โ and press START. The level is remembered for next time. The Today's board button next to it jumps straight to the daily board.
- Tap any square to begin. The first square and its neighbours are always empty, so a wide area opens at once and the timer starts.
- Read the numbers, flag the squares you know are mines and open the safe ones. The counter at the top shows the total number of mines minus the flags you have placed.
- Once a number has exactly that many flags around it, tap the number again to open all its remaining neighbours in one go.
- Open every square that is not a mine and the win card shows your time; on today's board you can enter a nickname and submit it. From there choose Play again, Share result or back to the title.
How minesweeper works
Open a square and you get a number: how many mines hide in the eight squares around it. Use those clues to open every safe square โ open a mine and it's over. Plant flags on squares you're sure about. The 3ร3 area around your first click is always clear, so every game starts with a real opening.
Levels and board sizes
| Easy | 9ร9 ยท 10 mines โ the right size for learning the rules and patterns |
|---|---|
| Medium | 16ร16 ยท 40 mines โ the standard size used for the daily board and leaderboard |
| Expert | 16ร30 ยท 99 mines โ on a phone held upright the board is turned to 16 columns by 30 rows |
Square size is chosen automatically between 20 and 44 pixels to fit the screen; if the board is still larger than the screen you can scroll within the board area. A new board gets a random number between 1 and 99999, and pressing the face or New board while a game is running asks before discarding it.
Why the first click is always safe
Mines are placed after your first tap, not when the board appears. At that moment the game excludes the tapped square and its eight neighbours from the mine pool, so the first click never explodes and is always a zero โ which is why the opening cascades outward like a wave. The layout comes from a seed built from the board number, the level and the position of that first click, so the same board number opened at the same square always produces the same mines.
Controls
On desktop, click to open and right-click to flag. On mobile, tap to open and long-press to flag, or switch on flag mode to make every tap a flag. Tap an opened number again (chording) and, if you've flagged exactly that many neighbours, all the rest open at once โ that's where real speed comes from. A long press registers after roughly 0.4 seconds with a short vibration; a flagged square does not open when tapped, and tapping a flag again removes it.
Two patterns worth memorising
A 1-2-1 along a wall means the squares beyond both 1s are mines. A 1-2-2-1 means the middle two are. Those two patterns alone will carry you through most medium boards. And remember: if a number equals its remaining closed neighbours, they're all mines; if it already has that many flags, everything else is safe.
The screen and the effects
Above the board sit the mine counter, the face button and the timer. The face is ๐ normally, ๐ฎ while you press a square, ๐ต when you hit a mine and ๐ when you clear the board; pressing it starts a new board (the same daily board again if you were playing that). Hitting a mine shakes the board, throws sparks, reveals the remaining mines one by one starting from the nearest, and marks wrongly placed flags with โ. Clearing the board plants a flag on each remaining mine and drops confetti. Personal bests for Easy and Expert are kept in this browser and shown on the title and win screens.
The daily board
Today's board is one Medium layout (16ร16, 40 mines) that everyone in the world gets, decided by the date (Korea Standard Time). Same board, pure reading speed โ only daily-board times go on the leaderboard, a top 10 sorted by fastest time with nicknames of up to 12 characters, while Easy and Expert keep private practice records. Because the first-click position is part of the layout, agree with a friend on the same opening square if you want identical mines. The share button builds a result card link carrying your time, board number and level.

Frequently asked questions
Can I resume a board later?
No. A round is short, so progress is not saved; returning to the title or leaving the page discards the board. Only your level choice and personal bests stay in the browser.
Long-pressing does not place a flag
If your finger moves or lifts before about 0.4 seconds, the touch counts as a tap and may open the square. When you have many flags to place, turn on Flag mode at the bottom so every tap becomes a flag; press it again to switch back.
It is today's board, but my friend's mines are in different places
The board number is the same, but the layout also depends on where the first click landed โ a consequence of guaranteeing a safe first click by placing mines afterwards. Agree on the same first square (the exact centre, say) and you will both get the same layout.
The mine counter has gone negative
You have placed more flags than there are mines. The counter is total mines minus flags, so at least one flag is wrong โ recheck the numbers around it.
