Country and city are estimated from the IP range, so they may differ from where you actually are (depending on your ISP it can show a neighboring city or the capital). An IP alone cannot reveal an exact location.

Public IP vs. private IP

The address shown here is your public IP: the one that identifies your home (or office) router to the rest of the internet. The 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x or 172.16โ€“31.x.x address you see in your computer's network settings is a private IP that only means something inside your own router. Every phone, laptop and TV on the same Wi-Fi has its own private IP but shares a single public IP. When a game server guide or a remote-access setup asks for "your IP", it almost always means this public one.

What an IP address reveals โ€” and what it doesn't

An IP lookup can tell you the ISP and a rough location โ€” usually the state or metro area, occasionally the city โ€” because providers allocate their IP ranges by region. It cannot reveal your street address, apartment number, name or phone number; that information is held by the ISP and only released under a court order. So "I have your IP, I'm coming to your house" is an empty threat. One caveat: a company or university connection often shows the organization's name in place of an ISP.

How to change your IP address

  • Restart your router โ€” most home connections use a dynamic IP, so unplugging the router (or modem) and turning it back on after a few minutes often gets you a new address. If it doesn't change, try leaving it off for 10โ€“30 minutes.
  • Airplane mode on mobile data โ€” toggling airplane mode on a phone almost always assigns a fresh IP.
  • VPN โ€” makes you appear to connect from another country or provider. Turn on your VPN and hit "Check again" to watch the country and ISP change.
  • Static IPs, common at offices and schools, will not change no matter how often you reboot.

If you see an IPv6 address

A long address with colons, starting with something like 2001: or 2400:, means you are connected over IPv6. Mobile carriers (especially on LTE and 5G) and newer broadband lines often enable IPv6 by default. It runs alongside IPv4 (the four-number kind), so which one a site sees can vary, and both are perfectly normal. If a game hosting or port-forwarding guide insists on an IPv4 address, switch to Wi-Fi or check the WAN IP on your router's admin page.

How to use it

  1. The page fetches your public IP as soon as it opens and shows it in large type, with a note saying whether it is IPv4 or IPv6.
  2. Tap the address or press Copy IP to put it on the clipboard.
  3. The table on the right lists country, region, ISP, time zone, edge data center and protocol, followed by what your browser reports about itself: language, screen resolution and User-Agent.
  4. Turn a VPN on or off, or switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, then press Check again. Nothing is cached, so you always see the current state.

Where the information comes from

This site is served through Cloudflare. When the page calls /api/ip, the function reads what Cloudflare attached to the request โ€” the connecting IP from the cf-connecting-ip header, plus the country, region, city, AS number, network name, time zone, data center code, HTTP version and TLS version that Cloudflare derives from its IP database โ€” and returns them as JSON. The server code only reads and forwards these values; there is no database write and no logging, and the response carries cache-control: no-store so it is never cached. Browser language, screen size and User-Agent are read by the page itself and never leave your browser.

Some rows show only "-"

Cloudflare did not supply that field for your address. City and region are often missing for mobile and small ranges. It is not an error.

Can I see coordinates?

The API response includes an approximate latitude and longitude from Cloudflare, but the page does not display them. They are city-level estimates, not your actual position.

"Check again" gives the same IP

Even a dynamic IP stays the same until your provider issues a new one. Use the steps under "How to change your IP address" above โ€” a router restart or airplane mode โ€” and check again afterwards.
