How to use it

  1. Choose a type from the six tabs at the top: Link / text, Wi-Fi, Phone, SMS, Email or Contact.
  2. Fill in the fields and the code is drawn instantly in the preview on the right (above the form on phones). Clear the fields and the preview goes blank; the download buttons are enabled only while there is content.
  3. Adjust the options: size (128 to 1024 px in steps of 64, default 512), margin (Narrow, Normal, Wide), error correction (L, M, Q, H), foreground and background colors, and rounded dots. Every change redraws the code.
  4. The line under the preview reads something like "42 chars ยท 512ร—512 px ยท level M" โ€” the amount of content encoded and the current settings.
  5. Download as PNG or SVG, or use Copy image to put it on the clipboard and paste it into a document or chat. Files are named "qr-type-timestamp".

What each type encodes

Link ยท textExactly what you type. Include https:// so cameras recognize it as a link.
Wi-FiNetwork name (SSID), password, security (WPA/WPA2/WPA3, WEP or none) and the hidden-network flag, packed into the WIFI:T:โ€ฆ;S:โ€ฆ;P:โ€ฆ;H:โ€ฆ;; format. Semicolons, commas, colons and quotes in the name or password are escaped automatically.
Phonetel: followed by digits and + only โ€” hyphens and spaces are dropped.
SMSSMSTO:number:message โ€” scanning opens a text message with the recipient and body filled in.
EmailA mailto: address with subject and body attached, so the mail app opens prefilled.
ContactvCard 3.0. The name is required; phone, email, company / title and website are included only if you fill them in.

Error correction levels

Lrecovers from about 7% damage. The coarsest, largest modules โ€” best for small prints or long content
Mabout 15%. The default; fine for screens and ordinary printing
Qabout 25%. Stickers and outdoor signage that may get scratched
Habout 30%. A logo overlaid in the center, or items that will be folded or creased

A higher level needs more modules for the same content, so at the same pixel size the dots get smaller and the code must be scanned from closer. Content is limited to roughly 2,900 characters; beyond that you see "Too much content". Short links scan far more reliably on business cards and posters.

Tips for printing

  • Download as SVG and it scales to any size without pixelation. Business cards and banners should always use SVG.
  • Keep the margin at "Normal" or wider. Without a quiet zone, scan rates drop sharply.
  • Error correction H still reads with 30% of the code covered. Use H if you plan to overlay a logo or print on something that may get creased; M is plenty for screens.
  • Foreground and background need strong contrast. Light-colored dots on white will not scan.
The rounded dots option keeps the three large corner squares (finder patterns) sharp and rounds only the rest, so the code looks nicer without hurting scanner recognition.

What happens to what you type

The QR code is generated entirely in your browser and nothing is sent to a server โ€” even your Wi-Fi password never reaches us. There is no expiry either: the content lives inside the QR code itself, so it keeps working even if this site disappears.

Frequently asked questions

Can I change the content of a QR code later?

These are static codes: the content lives inside the pattern itself, so when a link changes you generate a new code and reprint it. In exchange there is no intermediary server โ€” no expiry, no scan limits, no interstitial ads and no record of who scanned it.

The rounded dots disappear in the SVG

Rounded dots are drawn onto the preview canvas, so they apply to Save PNG and Copy image only; the SVG is exported with standard square modules. To print the rounded look, set the size to 1024 px and download the PNG.

How much margin is enough?

The margin option leaves a quiet zone of 1 (Narrow), 2 (Normal) or 4 (Wide) modules around the code. The QR specification recommends four modules, so choose Wide for print or whenever the code sits inside a bordered design.

Copy image does nothing

If the browser cannot write images to the clipboard you will see "This browser cannot copy images". Use Save PNG instead.

Can I prefill the link field?

Yes โ€” open this page with ?q= followed by your text in the address bar and the link field starts filled in. Handy for bookmarking a code you regenerate often.
