What face reading looks at

Traditional East Asian physiognomy divides the face into three zones: the forehead governs early life and wisdom, the zone from brows to nose tip governs the middle years and pride, and the zone from nose to chin governs later life and relationships. On top of that it reads the five features — brows, eyes, nose, mouth and ears. This test locates 468 facial landmarks and computes the three-zone ratio, eye length and openness, the tilt of the eyes and brows, nose length and nostril width, mouth width and lip fullness, jaw angle and left–right symmetry, then matches the pattern to the classic types.

The quick result names one of twelve face types. The full reading reads your face in five layers, exactly as traditional physiognomy does. The Five-Element face type (Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, Earth) shows your innate temperament; the proportions of the Three Zones (三停) show which season of life — early, middle or late — carries the most fortune; the shapes of the Five Features (五官) give the eyes, brows, nose and mouth each their own character and luck; the fullness of the Twelve Palaces (十二宮) scores the twelve stations of life such as wealth, career, partnership and family; and finally the Age Map (流年運氣) traces your fortune year by year. The three zones of the face — every face has ages on it

Face reading assigns ages to the face. The forehead governs 15 to 30, the brows 31 to 34, the eyes 35 to 40, the bridge of the nose 41 to 45, the nose tip and nostrils 46 to 50, the philtrum and mouth 51 to 60, and the chin everything after 61. That is why a broad forehead means early fortune leads, a fine nose means wealth gathers in midlife, and a solid chin means a comfortable later life. The Age Map curve in the reading lays each region’s score along this timeline; enter your age and you can see at once which stretch this year falls in.

The five features — the names of eyes, brows, nose and mouth

Physiognomy sorts the eyes alone into phoenix, dragon, tiger, ox, peach-blossom, sanpaku, round, long-narrow and water eyes. The phoenix eyes meaning is the most honoured of all: long, narrow eyes whose tails sweep upward, read as insight and nobility. Sanpaku eyes show white above or below the iris and are read as tenacity and ambition. Noses are read as the hanging-gall nose (the finest wealth nose), the lion nose, the eagle-beak nose, the crouching-rhino nose and more; mouths as the crescent mouth (corners turned up, the most blessed), the square mouth, the cherry mouth and the thin-line mouth. The reading measures the angle of the eye tails, the eye’s height-to-width ratio, the share of iris to white, the height and curve of the nose bridge and the direction of the mouth corners before it assigns these names.
