Face symmetry & baby-face test โ choose one photo and we read 468 facial landmarks to compute your left-right symmetry score, a baby-face index and a golden-ratio score. The photo is processed in your browser and stored nowhere.
How to use it
- Choose a photo โ pick one from your library with "Choose a photo" or shoot one with "Take a selfie"; on a computer you can also drag a file onto the box. The face engine (about 4 MB) downloads once, and later runs start immediately.
- Analysis โ the photo is shrunk to 1024 pixels on its long side, its orientation is corrected, and the face is located. Green dots sweep down the face for one second while the 468 landmarks are read. If no face is found you are asked for a brighter, straight-on photo.
- Results โ the symmetry score and grade card come first, then the baby-face index and golden-ratio score side by side, five per-feature symmetry bars, and the left/right mirror comparison.
- Share or save โ "Share result" builds a link that carries only the symmetry score and baby-face index; "Save image" renders the grade card. "Another photo" takes you back to the start.
How the symmetry score works
We draw the center line of your face from the top of the head to the chin, then measure how precisely paired landmarks โ eye corners, brows, mouth corners, cheekbones, jawline โ mirror each other across that line. The error is divided by face width so photo size and resolution do not matter, then mapped to 0โ100. If your head is turned, one side looks shorter, so the score is corrected by the rotation angle. The per-feature bars show exactly which part costs you points.
The four symmetry grades
In practice the symmetry score lands between 40 and 99, and the number decides one of four grades.
| Score | Grade | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 95 and up | Mirror Face | Fold it in half and nothing changes โ eyes, brows, mouth corners and jawline all at the same height |
| 85โ94 | Balanced | The big picture lines up; small differences read as natural rather than uneven |
| 70โ84 | Natural Charm | The asymmetry of a living face โ learn your better side and your photos change |
| 69 and below | Character Face | Two distinctly different moods on the two sides |
The per-feature scores use their own landmark pairs: eyes (outer corners, inner corners, upper and lower lids โ four pairs), brows (three), mouth corners (three), cheekbones (three) and jawline (three). Features that are naturally tight, like the eyes, are graded more strictly than the outline, so the five bars can be compared directly. The overall score is the midpoint between the engine's 14-pair score and a weighted mean of the five features (eyes 25%, mouth, cheeks and jaw 20% each, brows 15%), plus the rotation correction.
Correction for a turned head
Beyond 8 degrees of turn, each extra degree forgives 0.9 points of error, up to 25 points; a tilt up or down beyond 10 degrees earns a small allowance too. When the turn exceeds 12 degrees, a note appears saying a straight-on photo would be more accurate. The correction only ever reduces the penalty, so the most trustworthy score still comes from a photo taken looking straight into the camera.
What makes a baby face
- A short lower face โ the smaller the nose-to-chin section is relative to the whole face, the younger it reads.
- Big, round eyes โ a taller eye shape and slightly downturned corners give a softer, younger look.
- A round outline and soft jaw โ a narrow jaw relative to the cheekbones and a face that is not too long push the index up.
- A short nose and full lips โ adult faces trend toward longer noses and thinner lips, so the opposite reads younger.
These traits are weighted into a 0โ100 index and translated into "years younger than your peers". We never ask your real age.
Reading the baby-face index
The index runs from 5 to 99, with the peer average sitting around 50. Every 7 points becomes one perceived year, shown as "reads n years younger than your peers"; a gap under two years is reported as "reads exactly your age". An index of 71, for example, reads three years younger, while 36 reads two years more mature. The description changes at 75 (nearly every baby-face trait), 55 (reads younger than it is), 40 (mature and age-appropriate) and below (a trustworthy, mature impression).
The golden-ratio score
It checks how close your proportions sit to the classic ideals: the distance between the eyes versus eye width, the equality of the facial thirds (forehead, midface, lower face), face height to width, and nose and mouth width relative to face width. A high score means straight-on photos come out well.
This score also lands between 40 and 99. From 90 the spacing, thirds and face ratio sit close to the ideal; from 78 the proportions are evenly balanced; from 65 one or two features stand out with character; below that the face wins on impression rather than proportion. A low symmetry score pulls the golden-ratio score down slightly as well.
Left / right mirror comparison
We show your original next to a face built from your left side twice and one from your right side twice. The two mirrored faces usually look surprisingly different โ that is normal. The one you prefer is your better side; turn it toward the camera for selfies.
Where does the photo go?
Nowhere. The face model runs inside your browser, the file is never sent to a server, and the shareable result image contains no photo. Try next: the Face Reading Test, What Animal Do I Look Like and Personal Color Analysis.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the same face score differently from photo to photo?
Because the score measures the face as captured in that frame: camera angle, expression and lens distortion all move the landmarks. Close selfies taken at arm's length or nearer enlarge the center of the face through wide-angle distortion, and even a slight turn shortens one side. Compare a few photos taken straight on, ideally by someone else, to find your face's typical value.
Do glasses, bangs or a mask matter?
Thin frames are usually fine, but strong reflections or dark lenses can shift the eye landmarks. Bangs change the forehead share of the facial thirds, and a mask hides the mouth and chin landmarks, so the analysis may fail or drift badly. A photo showing forehead and chin gives the most reliable read.
How can it say "years younger" without knowing my age?
It never compares against your real age. The number expresses how far your proportions sit toward the young side of the adult average, converted into perceived years relative to peers โ the same proportions give the same figure at twenty or at fifty.
Can I use a group photo?
One face per photo is analyzed. If several people are in the frame only one of them is picked up, so use a solo photo or crop it tightly to one face.
